Another starving quilter project

For a while now I have been needing to new kitchen hot-pads and mits.

My old ones were well past their natural beauty .... full of grease spots, burned and frayed  edges
...not to mention they were a crazy assortment of mismatched holiday themes and colors.  UGLY UGLY UGLY!!!

I have made a beautiful new set

They match my everyday dishes!

These are made from a heavy denim and have heat-proof silicon pad on the inside. I've had these silicon  hot pads and never used them because they are slippery and I was always afriad of burning myself  if I did use them. So voila! new beautiful useful and non-slippery heat resistant kitchen hot pads!

Three newest projects....Mug Rugs or Coasters!

It's been a while since I've added any projects in my quest to make a new project every week for 52 weeks. I'm WAY behind, but I'm trying to catch up. My biggest problem is that we have been a one income family and that means that there's no extra money for fabric and that kind of stuff. I've got several projects half finished, just waiting for that final bit of fabric or thread or what ever to get finished. These mug rugs have been in my head for a while, I had to use all my imagination and skill to come up with fabric combination that did not require something I didn't already have. These are all for sale! One sale equals anther step closer to finishing my next project. Buy now buy often...keep a starving quilter from starving!!!!!!

Where's Papa Bear? Project #3 of 52

Where's Papa Bear?
A couple of days early but I just couldn't wait to show everyone the newest quilt project I just finished.
I called it "Where's Papa Bear" . I designed this quilt to donate to my local Friends of NRA Annual Fund-raising Banquet. There are always guns and prints and other artwork auctioned at this event. I donate a quilt to this event every year. This year the picture of the year was of a big old Papa grizzly bear scratching it's behind against a burnt out tree. This inspired me to make a quilt with a bear theme and I've had the pattern for years just waiting for the right time to make it. When I was putting this quilt together with the two different sizes of bears going in different directions its just reminded me of a mama bear and a baby bear looking all over for the papa bear.

Paper pieced quilt block
More about the actual quilt .....It's 100% cotton flannel. I got all the fabric at my wonderful local quilt shop the Creative Cloth Closet The larger bears were made using a Cliff's Bear Template. They are paper pieced with seven different fabrics and  machine appliqued  in place. The large bears are surrounded by a beautiful leaf pattern with baby bears appliqued on the corner stone squares.

All this in a beautiful fall color scheme: Sage greens, rusts and browns. Measuring 62x62 it's the perfect size throw to snuggle up with on a cool spring or winter evening.

The quilting on this is a leaf pattern. I got it quilted thanks to my good friend Patti who let me use her Gracie quilting frame. We spent 2 very enjoyable Sunday afternoons getting this quilted.Thank you so much Patti!

This quilt will be listed for sale as a custom hand crafted quilt at my Etsy Store

#2 of 52 Weekly Projects----Stars and Stripes Quilted table runner

This is my second project in my personal challenge of making a new project every week for a year....that's 52 projects!  This table runner is a patriotic blend of stars and stripes mixed with half square triangles in a traditional quilt block design known as "Delectable Mountains". The runner is approximately 18" wide and 70 " long from tip to tip. . The quilting is a combination of outline quilting and free-motion quilting in the solid areas of the background fabric. This quilted table runner is now for sale on my Etsy Store

Next weeks Project:  A 70"x70" quilt I call " Where's Papa Bear?"

#1 of 52 projects in 52 weeks

Every Monday I'll show you my newest project
This my first  project in my year long challenge.

I have given my self the challenge of making/finishing one project a week for the next 52 weeks. Why you might ask? Well, because I am determined to make a change in my life and become a quilting professional. Instead of working for a corporate giant I will once again become my own boss. I am a tough demanding boss, and I have set goals for my fledgling company hence the 52 projects in 52 weeks. One project a week for an entire year. Some will be small projects like this table topper some will be as large as bed sized quilt. The little projects will fill in between the big so I can meet my goals of 52 projects in 52 weeks.  All this while I work, like the rest of you, at a regular job 11 hours a day! I will appreciate all your feedback and support!

This is my first project Fibonacci Log Cabin with a vintage doily hand crocheted doily in the center. It is 21" x21" the center doily is about 9" square  crocheted from white cotton. The back is the same as he light batik on the left side of the front.

This quilt is for sale at my Etsy store.

New Project in the works....Paper pieced buffalos

Paper Pieced Buffalo
Just wanted to give a little teaser on a new project that's in the works. It's acutally been incubating in my imagination  for quite a while and has finally emerged from the nest in this test piece.

As you can tell it is paper pieced with a little machine embroidery for the horn

I  have not decided on colors or other design elements yet but at this moment I am working on using it in combination with a log cabin block. I do this using my Paint program on my PC

This is what I have so far.......I am thinking that I'll put the buffalo pattern between the blocks. I still have to put the buffalo in the program then play with the colors....Any suggestions?????????

This is the first time I've kind of publicized the creative process I go through when coming up with a quilt design. I usually do this all by myself but I think feedback will  really help the creative process.
I'd really like your input and inspiration ....
Please please leave your comments!

Mother Daughter Quilt

My daughter an I made this quilt for one of her best friends baby in 2006. At that time my daughter was living in Arizon and I was living in Colorado. Separately she made the green pinwheels and I made the blocks with the multicolored squares. Then we got together, assembled the quilt, picked out the border and the backing and put the quilt together on a long weekend I spent with her in Arizona.

My daugther did the quilting and finished with the binding.

Then she added the final touch of the signature block:
We finished this before the baby was born so we didn't have a name

It was a great project to do "together" even though we weren't in the same state at the time.
